Fruitvale is one of five municipalities and two electoral areas of the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary that is geographically described as the Greater Trail Area, which is situated in a region of the Province of British Columbia referred to as the West Kootenay Region. The village is located east of the City of Trail on Highway 3B in the southern interior of British Columbia, within the eastern section of the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary.
