Trail has established itself as an industrial and technological hub of the West Kootenay. Two of the region’s largest employers are located in Trail; Teck Trail Operations and the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital. In recent years, Trail has seen much development in both the industrial and tourism sectors. The City of Trail has embarked on major projects like the Columbia River Skywalk, the Trail and District Public Library, and extensive upgrades to the terminal building at the Trail Regional Airport. The City of Trail and the surrounding communities of Rossland, Warfield, Montrose and Fruitvale make up the area referred to as the Greater Trail Area.
